Judge Elizabeth Gobeil was appointed by Governor Deal to the Court of Appeals of Georgia on June 5, 2018 and was elected statewide in 2020 and 2026. Currently, she is the Vice Chief Judge of the court.
A native of Thomaston, Georgia, Judge Gobeil is a graduate of Emory University and the University of Georgia School of Law, where she served on The Journal of Intellectual Property Law.
Before joining the bench, Judge Gobeil was Director and Appellate Division Judge for the State Board of Workers’ Compensation. And prior to that, she practiced general civil and life sciences law, both as a partner at Thompson Hine, LLP, and as in house counsel for two global companies.
Currently, Judge Gobeil serves on the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism, the Judicial Council of Georgia’s Committee on Artificial Intelligence and the Courts, and the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education. She is active in her local rotary, charities, and professional and bar associations.
Formerly, Judge Gobeil served on the Judicial Council of Georgia’s Ad Hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence and the Courts and the Statewide Opioid Taskforce headed by Attorney General Carr. Judge Gobeil was the University of Georgia School of Law’s Spring 2026 Jurist in Residence, and has guest-lectured at Mercer University School of Law, Seton Hall School of Law, and Temple University School of Pharmacy. .
Judge Gobeil resides in Savannah, Georgia with her husband, Bart. They are graduates of Leadership Georgia.
