Atlanta, August 11, 2026 – The Court of Appeals of Georgia welcomes its newest judge to the bench, Judge Brian K. Epps, who was sworn in this afternoon by Governor Brian Kemp.
“We are delighted to welcome Judge Epps to the Court of Appeals,” said Chief Judge Trenton Brown. “I am confident that he is well-prepared to serve the citizens of Georgia in this new role and will quickly prove to be an asset to the court. Judge Epps has a superb reputation as a lawyer, jurist, and community member. The judges and staff at our court are ready to assist him with the transition in any way we can.”
Judge Epps earned his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law, after graduating cum laude from the University of Georgia. During law school, Judge Epps served on the Editorial Board of the Georgia Law Review. He was then a law clerk to United States District Judge Richard W. Story of the Northen District of Georgia.
Before his appointment to the Court of Appeals of Georgia, Judge Epps served as a Magistrate Judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia for thirteen years. Prior to his time on the federal bench, Judge Epps was a partner at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP, where he represented commercial policyholders in insurance coverage disputes throughout the United States and internationally.
Judge Epps teaches a mediation course as an adjunct professor at the UGA School of Law and has devoted significant effort to developing mediation concepts and technologies.
The judges of the Court of Appeals extend their congratulations and a warm welcome to Judge Epps.
